The research project Social Technologies in Emergency Management examines the use of social media by emergency management and response organizations that fall into one of five categories: fire departments, law enforcement agencies, emergency medical care providers, public health organizations, and executive emergency management departments.

Emergency management use of social media can include offering emergency event preparedness tips, after-action reports, or opportunities for community engagement to learn about preparedness.

This project is a collaboration between the Moynihan Institute of Global Affairs, part of Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, and the Syracuse University Institute for Security Policy and Law.
